Experienced Attorneys Handling Tax Law Matters
At The Law Office of DeCaro & Howell, P.C., tax law is a core part of our practice. Attorney Thomas DeCaro has worked for the IRS and provided tax counsel to two of the largest corporations in the United States before founding our firm. Helping our Maryland, Northern Virginia and D.C. clients navigate the complex tax system has been a focus for our firm for a quarter century.
What makes our firm different? Here are just some of the ways that our lawyers’ experienced counsel stands apart when your or your business’s financial health is on the line:
- We handle routine as well as complex tax matters. Our attorneys don’t dabble in tax law; they represent clients with tax issues every day. We handle individual taxpayer audits, represent businesses and individuals in every aspect of the collection process, (payment plans, “currently not collectable” arrangements, offers in compromise, collection due process hearings) and everything in between.
- We have experience in complementary legal issues. Tax issues seldom appear by themselves. They are usually accompanied by other financial issues such as, for example, contested payroll tax assessments. We have experience in these other areas that allows us to approach every case we handle from a big-picture perspective.
- There is a common misconception that tax debts are not dischargeable in a bankruptcy. We have developed solutions resulting in discharges of taxes where appropriate. We also use the bankruptcy process to reduce the balance due by challenging the underlying assessment. If an outright discharge is not feasible, we can use the bankruptcy process to develop an orderly way to pay off the tax assessment, after reducing the tax claim to the lowest possible amount.
- We take complicated tax issues and make them understandable and manageable. We recognize that no one likes dealing with taxes. That’s part of why you’re seeking legal help in the first place. At our firm, we dispense with the legalese and address your concerns in straightforward terms.
If you have a legal issue related to tax law, our lawyers will talk with you, help you understand your rights and options, and advocate to get you the best results possible.
